Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup peanut butter
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • minced garlic
  • 1 cup stock (chicken or vegetable)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp sugar (adjust to your preference)

Garnishing

  • fried shallot
  • chili oil or freshly chopped chili
  • coarsely chopped toasted peanuts
  • chopped parsley
  • lemon (for that zesty kick)

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, saute the garlic until golden brown.
  • Gradually add the stock and water.
  • Add the peanut butter, hoisin sauce, and minced garlic over medium heat. Stir until they meld into a creamy mixture.
  • Continuing to stir to maintain a smooth consistency.
  • Add in sugar, adjusting to your desired level of sweetness. Give it a taste test; if it needs a hint of zing, squeeze in some lemon juice.
  • Simmer the sauce gently for 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Add more water as needed.
  • Once it’s reached your preferred consistency, let it cool and transfer it to a serving dish.
  • Garnish your sauce with any combination of fried onions, chili oil, coarsely chopped peanuts, or minced parsley. These elements add layers of texture and flavor to your peanut sauce.
